Eggo Breakfast Sandwiches

Well, I saw an ad for this breakfast sandwich the other day and decided that I would give it a try.
I normally don't have enough time in the mornings to make breakfast at home and picking up breakfast at a chain adds up after a while.

I'm normally not a big fan of frozen breakfast sandwiches. I've found that they don't always turn out to be enjoyable meals after they've been through the microwave. Though there are a few that seem good that I will get to in a different review.

The Eggo breakfast sandwich is selling for about $6.50 in my area. You get 4 sandwiches in each box. So that comes out to about $1.62 per sandwich. Which is far cheaper than ordering a sandwich from the regular menu from a chain restaurant.

There are three varieties to choose from:
Sausage, egg, and cheese
Bacon, egg, and cheese
Egg and cheese.

In this review I tackle the sausage and egg variety.

Preparation:
Cooking the sandwich is really quick. While most breakfast items suggest thawing them out first and and once thawed cooking them. The Eggo sandwich only ask that you remove the sandwich from the wrapper, place it on paper towel, and microwave on high for just over a minute.
So that's what I did. After a minute the sandwich was medium hot on both sides and the center.

I have to admit. It was one of the quickest sandwiches I've heated up yet. Normally one minute of cooking, even on high, would mean putting the sandwich back into the microwave for another couple of minutes.

Taste:
The sandwich is supposed to have a taste and smell of having syrup on it. I could see a few specks of the syrup blotches in the waffle like sandwich. However actually tasting or smelling it was a different story. There just wasn't syrup stuff there to stand out.
The waffle like bread was soft and cooked really well.
The egg left a lot to be desired. While it didn't have that cardboard like taste that some frozen sandwiches have. It came very close to having the taste. And finally the sausage. All I can say is: it was okay. If your into the precooked sausage that all you have to do is warm it up, you will be right at home with this sausage.
Overall the sandwich did not live up to the commercial. But it's really quick to cook and if your hungry enough you will be happy to have it.

Portions:
The size of the sandwich is fairly small about half what you would find from a regular Eggo waffle.
Unfortunately I didn't have a ruler available to do any measuring.
I wold put the size at about the same as a biscuit sandwich from McDonald's. So unless your a light eater one sandwich won't do much for you.

Overall:
If your in a pinch and happen to have these or someone offers one to you. I wouldn't pass it up. But I wouldn't buy them again. While $1.62 per sandwich is pretty good price (vs go through the drive-thru somewhere) I can find better tasting breakfast sandwiches for a better price.
